START

START is an Al Madad/Art Dubai joint project. It is an initiative to use the international language of art to heal, educate and enrich the skills and opportunities of children and young adults in devastated areas of the world.

START is a sustained programme of art education to develop enduring skills and build long-term relationships within communities.

General Aims
Empower and heal children through the creative process.
Provide opportunities for building skills and enhancing life-choices.
Build networks for inter-cultural communication, awareness and understanding.

Funding Objectives
Establish pilot projects in communities in Palestine, Lebanon and other parts (initially) of the Middle East.
Provide art therapy expertise to support damaged children.
Provide art development programmes for children and young adults aimed at opening creative opportunities.
Build a network of cultural connections between START and the international community.
Establish a programme of visiting artists from the Art Dubai fair to support the artistic development and opportunities of children engaged in the programme.
Provide bursaries, scholarships and travel assistance to students developing longer-term academic and professional qualifications.
Exhibit annually the best of the work from START projects at GAF.
Promote the work of START through other media, including websites and publications.
